Why we made it this way
The three projectors in this section look related and behave differently. This one leans on sound: it carries more separate audio than the others, which matters for a baby who is building the link between pressing something and hearing something back.
Light is the second half of it. A rotating pattern gives a newborn a slow-moving target to track, and tracking across the midline is one of the first visual skills to arrive. Later the same rotation becomes something to reach for and stop with a hand.
The roll is the part parents mention. Once a baby is up on hands and knees, a toy that moves when it is touched gives chasing a purpose, and the drum shape keeps it going in a straight enough line to be worth following.
